Below is an example. Latest tracker Thursday at PM.I am currently a senior in high school and will be attending Baruch College through the Macaulay Honors College in the fall.

I have always wanted to pursue a career in investment banking, hedge funds, bond tradingetc. Basically where all the money is, lol who doesnt want to be rich. I have heard people looking at the glass half empty saying unless you come from an ivey you have no chance in IB. I have also hear people looking at the glass half full saying no matter what college you go to, as long as you work hard you will have a chance.

Now I understand I may not have as well of a chance of somebody coming from Harvard, but how much of a chance will I have coming from Baruch.

Any advice on what I should do during my college career to better my chances of landing a SA position would be greatly appreciated.

Also, my ultimate goal is to become an investment banker and I was thinking about being an accountant if IB does not work out. Will majoring in Accounting, to have as a backup, hurt my chances?

There is a lot of info re: Baruch on WSO. Re: getting the job. We place about 25 kids in our entire class into FO spots. Considering how big our class is, that number is pretty small. Bottom line, you can do it, but it takes work. On a college note, Baruch is awful.

Awful envrionment, no college scene, and the majority of the kids are brain dead incnluding honors kids. Those that are smart are usually not that cool ie.

You can do it The biggest advantage to Baruch is the availability of "stepping stone" internships. If you can do well for one year, transfer to NYU, get an internship or two by the time summer recruiting comes along all very reasonable goalsgetting a summer analyst position after your junior year should not be a problem at all. Its just a very, very small one. Thanks for visiting this post. I want to do something in Investment Banking but I want to get an accounting degree to fall back on.

If you could estimate well which you obviously cannotyou would find that there are about students per year at stern, not That would mean that go into IBwhich, you might say, is still on the high end. The BB class size you estimated is too small. Its also not all BB but some boutiques as well. I would say that for wall street, NYU and Columbia are definitely among the very top in placing kids for internships and FT because of their location.

Plenty of asians in Baruch who wanna do IBD.

I have been accepted to baruch as a transfer.

My current school is a private community college. I didn't have to work hard to get As here. It is a pretty easy school. I'll be attending baruch soon and i heard its a hard school. How hard will I have to study to maintain a 3. I am an average student. April NYCguy replies 0 threads Junior Member.

I'm in the same boat. Went to a CC for the first 2 years and easily maintained a 3. I'm really worried that I might not be able to survive the rigors of finance at Baruch. It depends on the student. Accounting is a weed out major. Professors don't tend to give high grades. However, with that said, accounting is akin to physics in one way: you will either get it easily or you won't.

For me, it came very easily. For a number of other kids, they had to work like dogs and still didn't get the grades that I got. Thus, your answer is that "it depends on the student. I was just in Manhattan and decided to tour Baruch College. They are part of the City University of N. Altthough they focus on business related subjects, they also have a plethora of liberal arts majors from English to natural science, math etc.

When I was a student there 40 years ago, they only had one building. I didn't expect much. To say that I was surprised by what I saw is an understatement. First, they have a trading room that gives immediate daily feeds for stock quotes. It is so good and some firms use it for their own offices. It is a remarkable facilty for finance majors and those that want to study stock investing. Their library was gorgeous and state of the art. It was one of the nicest facilities that I have seen, and I have seen many university libraries.

It was full of computers for students to find almost anything. It also had a number of study rooms and study facilities. Baruch also has a state of the art gym facility for workouts that make most gyms pale by comparison. Not to be outdone, all classrooms have been modernized with wireless connections, and state of the art lecturing facilities. Being in Manhattan also has a big advantage.

They are able to attract a number of top quality faculty that work in NY and have been partners or officers of large firms.

Moreover, many of their graduate programs are top ranked including accounting, quantitative finance, real estate, taxation and much more. They even have a strong enterpreneural program that places students with potential ideas with sponsors for funding.

In addition, they have hundreds of clubs and organizations. If you can't find a club that interests you, you are aren't looking. However, the really remarkable thing about Baruch is the tuition. From community college to online programs. Check out our directory of virtual campus tours we know about right now.

September edited September Post edited by JAhmed on September Replies to: NYU vs. September NYU is higher rated. However, it is my opinion that you should pick Baruch over NYU if you don't mind commuting. Baruch has some great programs and great professors, especially in accounting and finance. This is not to say that NYU doesn't have the same, but Baruch, at least, comes close in quality in my opinion.

Baruch has one of the strongest and biggest alumni base of sucessful people in the country. I have traveled a great deal and interface with a number of business people and executives.

I always run into Baruch alumni. This translates into good job possibilities and placement especially in accounting and consulting. However, don't take my word for it. Baruch is the second most selective campus for undergraduate admissions among public institutions in New York State after the U.

Baruch is very inexpensive. There is no way that NYU is worth 6 times that of Baruch or even double in my opinion. When I attended there, I never had a graduate student or teaching assistant. I don't know if that is still true. You can stay in apartments in NY, but you will find that the social scene is very commuter oriented. Also, Baruch is a no nonsense school located in a serious business district of Manhattan.

Both are great, relatively safe locations. Both have great restaurants nearby, but NYU has a lot more students and schools nearby for socializing. However, all school choices should be based on fit. You need to check out the programs and culture of each school.Forums New posts Search forums.

I'm looking at either being on the pure quants side - building models etc which would lead to the choice of a CQF or Front Office Risk the FRM track with quant background I'm also interested in knowing the reputation of this course in general and how it would be regarded in an IB environment.

Baruch is a good school, but wont really help you when it comes to front office banking type work. You must log in or register to reply here.
